Glazing Systems Used

Hope’s Steel Windows and Doors Jamestown, New York, Motorized Oversized Entry by Turner Exhibits  Insulated units from Thermalsun Glass, custom aluminum trim work

General Glazing Highlights

This project definitely falls under the category of Unique and Special. This legacy barn is designed and hand crafted from top to bottom. From the giant timbers of the roof, hand chipped stone, hand crafted windows to the meticulously selected finishes this place is truly one of a kind. There are 29 windows, and 9 grand entryways that are all operable in the building. For the exterior of each opening we custom designed, ripped and fit aluminum casework to frame out the windows in matching color to the windows. Hundreds of hand cut and fit pieces were made to blend in seamlessly with the windows and surrounding stone work. For the tighter radius windows on the first floor glass stops could not be bent for the top of the windows. We patterned each window and hand made custom kerfed and mitered aluminum shapes to act as functional glass stops and line up perfectly to the stops below. At the West end of the building is an all custom made Automated Barn Door by Turner Exhibits. This 9 foot by 12 foot 6 pair is driven by a motor mounted to an I-Beam which when activated pushes the doors open using arms that slide along the beam. We installed matching Hope’s windows into the doors to complete the look.

Across from the Barn, perched on the pond, is another custom building; the Gazebo. This small entertaining structure on the water has all matching elements to the Barn. The only difference is the window selection. These casement windows and the entry pair of doors are hand made bronze frames from Hope’s. As with the Barn we were tasked with casing the openings to match. This time both interior and exterior were done using custom bronze shapes to match. Each piece individually cut to match the miters, stone and floor conditions. The choices made by the owners here make this property feel almost magical.
